VISTA ---- Less than a week after Vista Unified School District officials announced that the district doesn't have enough money to finish its magnet high school campus, the school board will meet Tuesday to decide what to do about it.

The board is scheduled to meet at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday at the district office, 1234 Arcadia Ave. in northern Vista.

Trustees have discussed the possibilities of either scaling the project back or walking away from their contract with EDGE Development and asking developers to propose new prices.

The district could end the contract with the Temecula-based firm, but would have to pay for millions of dollars worth of work the company has already finished.

According to current plans, the total cost for the Mission Vista High Schools project would be more than $97 million. The district is about $2 million short, district officials have said.

District officials had hoped to open the campus this August on a 66-acre site near the intersection of Highway 76 and Melrose Drive in eastern Oceanside. After numerous delays, cost increases and other setbacks, the trustees decided to delay that opening until August 2009.
