Recruiting starts for Mission Vista High Schools
Educators at the two magnet high schools that Vista Unified School District officials expect to open in August 2009 in eastern Oceanside will hold a series of meetings this month to recruit students for the schools' Save Your Spot Campaign.
The campaign will allow incoming freshmen to reserve a seat for the 2009-10 school year and enter the school as sophomores. It will also allow students to participate in programs in the coming school year that will help them gear up for the new school.
The campus is expected to open in August 2009 for 1,000 freshmen and sophomores.
The meetings were organized to let parents know about the campaign, which will include eight "leadership academies" throughout the next school year. In these academies, students are expected to learn about teamwork and leadership skills through a series of interactive activities and games.
The informational meetings are scheduled to start at 6:30 p.m. at the following schools: May 13 at Washington Middle School, May 15 at Vista Academy of visual and Performing Arts, May 19 at Vista Magnet Middle School, May 20 at Roosevelt Middle School and May 21 at Madison Middle School.
